About BMW
History
German automaker BMW has a legacy of building driver-centric luxury cars with cutting-edge technology. It began operations over a century ago as an aircraft engine manufacturer, and has been producing cars since the 1930s.
As a carmaker, BMW landed in India in 2006, and had a new plant in Chennai by 2007. The 5 Series and 3 Series luxury sedans were its first cars, and later in 2012, it introduced the Mini brand in the country. It has been able to keep car prices in check with local assembly, but new fully imported electric vehicles attract a premium.
Product portfolio
Luxury Sedans: BMW offers the 3 Series, 5 Series and 7 Series sedans, and the 2 Series, 6 Series and 8 Series Gran Coupes in India. The 3 Series is also available as a long-wheelbase Gran Limousine and a sportier M340i sedan. In addition, BMW offers the Z4 and Z4 M40i two-door roadster, and the M2 Competition, M5 Competition, M760Li, and M8 performance sedans.
Luxury SUVs: The carmaker’s SUV range starts with the BMW X1 compact luxury SUV, and comprises the X3, X5, and X7 luxury SUVs. The X5 is available in a sporty X5 M Competition variant, while the X7 is BMW’s flagship SUV in India.
Coupe SUVs: Two coupe SUVs are part of the carmaker’s lineup in India – the BMW X4 and X6.
Electric vehicles: BMW’s EV lineup consists of the iX electric SUV.
Greatest hits
E90 BMW 3 Series: The carmaker’s debut model for India
E89 BMW Z4: Iconic two-seater convertible sports car
BMW i8: First electrified BMW model
E90 BMW M3: This rear-drive performance sedan was BMW’s first M car in India
F90 BMW M5: Quickest-ever BMW
Future plans
BMW intends to become a major player in the global EV market. It has launched its first electric car in India, and it has the Mini Cooper electric and i4 electric sedan in the pipeline. High customs duties and taxes on imported cars (both ICE and electric) currently make BMW’s EVs exorbitantly expensive in the country. In the future, policy changes or local assembly, paired with a growing nationwide electric car charging network, could help the European carmaker expand to electric cars in India.

It is a rainy season. When I got X5 for a test drive. The 'BMW laser lights' passed through the rain droplets and had a clear vision of the road. When I pulled the door and sat on the purest form of leather. It hugs me like my mother and tightens till the end of the ride. Especially the 'air suspension' of BMW is superior to the competitors when there is a pot hole in front of me. It never made me lose and kept me stable. Then the cons are the mileage which gave only 10kmpl, which is quite impressive for a straight line 6-cylinder, but not for my wallet. The performance is unbeatable quiet like a snake fast as a cheetah. It is 0-100 under 5 seconds. Build quality is awesome every time you shut the door, the 'thud' noise proves the quality of the car. The outstanding feature is the gesture control of the car.

Bmw 2 series is hitting markets around the world this year and in india, It debuts with a sole 2.0-litre diesel in the 220d guise and in two trims, Sport line and am sport, The latter of which we have for testing. The car was unveiled last year to a fair amount of criticism about its styling, With many, Including me, Feeling it looked ungainly. It's legroom is fine but it’s not something you can stretch out in, And although the floor is relatively flat, The middle seat isn’t very comfortable.
