BMW G 310 R Latest Updates

BMW has hiked the prices of its top-selling naked motorcycle, the G 310 R, by Rs 10,000. It now retails at Rs 2.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Read more about the price here.

The Bavarian bikemaker also unveiled the 2022 G 310 R recently with new colour options that are expected to make their way here by the end of 2021. For full details, check out our story.

In India, BMW had launched the BS6 G 310 R with new features like LED lighting for all systems, adjustable brake and clutch levers, ride-by-wire, and a slip-and-assist clutch at a staggering price. We have ridden the bike and think it makes for a great package now. Maintenance costs have also been revealed. Is it cheaper to maintain than the KTM 390 Duke?

BMW G 310 R Engine

The G 310 R sports a 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit that continues to produce 34PS at 9500rpm and 28Nm of torque at 7500rpm. Thanks to the inclusion of ride-by-wire and a few new internal bits, the engine feels a lot smoother than the BS4 motor. It finally gets a slip-and-assist clutch making gear shifts on the six-speed gearbox, an effortless affair. The bike gets a tubular steel frame with 43mm upside-down front forks and rear monoshock damper. It gets 17-inch alloys wrapped in 110/70 R17 front and 150/60 R17 rear Michelin Pilot Street radial tyres. Braking is via a single 300mm front disc clamped with radially mounted calipers and a 240mm rear disc. It gets dual-channel ABS as standard.

BMW G 310 R Design

In terms of design, the G 310 R is exactly what you would expect a BMW designed bike to look like. It gets the same LED headlight and turn indicators that we first saw on the F 900 R. The golden-finished USD fork gives the front an aggressive stance. The profile is dominated by the large sculpted 11-litre fuel tank, the tank extensions, and the massive exhaust. The seat looks long and wide enough for comfort. Seat height is low at 785mm.

BMW G 310 R Features

The G 310 R now gets all-LED lighting, giving the baby roadster a proper muscular look. The headlight works brilliantly, leaving little room for complaints. The turn indicators get this lovely Lamborghini-esque ‘>’ shape. Our only grouse with the bike’s feature set is the LCD console. While it has enough data on demand, it isn’t that great to look at and doesn’t even have any smartphone connectivity options.

BMW G 310 R Competitors

The chief rival of the BMW G 310 R remains the KTM 390 Duke. After the BS6 updates and recent price revisions of both bikes, the baby Beemer is now more affordable than the Austrian streetfighter. The Honda CB300R is another natural rival of the G 310 R but it is yet to get its BS6 updates. For the price of the G 310 R though, you could get the TVS Apache RR 310.

What is good and bad in G 310 R?

  • G 310 R Positives

Looks muscular and has attractive colour schemes.\nSublime handling doesn’t come at the cost of harsh ride quality.\nMotor feels energetic but with less vibrations now.

  • G 310 R Negatives

The LCD console feels dated and out of place on such a premium bike.\nLimited dealership network.\nService costs are still on the higher side.

  • Expert's Conclusion

BMW has managed to iron out the majority of the issues that stopped us from wholeheartedly recommending the Bavarian naked. It is a delight to ride in the twisties with enough power on tap to thrill you. It is also more affordable now, which bodes well for its positioning in the market. Wish it came with better tyres, though.

  • 5.0

Very excellent great features comfort look design cuts etc all are features are supreme in bmw g 310r

  • 2.2

The engine (soul of the bike) is rough and feels stressed at times and ventilation is not at par, The bike gets heated a lot in slow moving traffic, The exhaust note is also not soothing, The gear shifts are very hard and this is a deal-breaker. Vibrations are present on the bike, Service network is limited in India. You do not feel confident at high speeds. The bike looks good, grabs attention, Suspensions are good, Seat-height is good for short riders also it is comfortable to sit. Led headlight is quite bright and gives good visibility at night. Breaks are decent. Overall avoid buying this bike, It just looks good and there are lot of problems in this bike.

Must Read Questions & Answers Before Buying G 310 R

Q. Confused between G 310 R or Street 750?
  • It would be unfair to give a verdict as Harley Davidson Street 750 has been discontinued and is not available for sale now. On the other hand, BMW G 310 R is a great pick. BMW G 310 R is a sportbike with a 313cc motor, it has got excellent brakes, offers good bite, feedback and progression. Features packed bikes are pretty much the norm these days. In BMW G 310 R, you have LED lights all around, Additional comforts include an adjustable clutch and brake levers which will help you fine-tune the lever reach as per your hand size. The handling capabilities of the BMW G 310 R far outweigh the grip of its Michelin Pilot Street tyres. As far as touring is concerned, this bike can sit comfortably at highway speeds of around 100kmph, but anything beyond that begins to feel harsh. So yes, you can use it for long-distance touring. And if you happen to find some poor or broken roads on this tour, the BMW’s excellent ride quality will do a fine job of soaking most of it up. But if pukka off-roading is what you have in mind, considering this bike could be among not so good decisions. Moreover, we would suggest you to take a test ride before making the final decision. Follow the link and select your desired city for dealership details.
Q. What is the reserve fuel capacity?
  • In general, 10-12 percent of the overall fuel capacity is the reserved capacity of the vehicle. BMW G 310 R features an 11 liters fuel tank and the reserved fuel capacity would be around 1.1- 1.32 liters.
Q. Does BMW G 310 R has quick shifter?
  • The G 310 R is powered by a BS6-compliant 313cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor which makes 34PS at 9,500rpm and 28Nm at 7,500rpm, the same as before. Its 6-speed transmission now features a slip and assist clutch.Read more -BMW G 310 R BS6 Ridden: Bavaria Bounces Back.

Q. What is the maintenance cost of G310R - G 310 R - G 310 R?
  • I owned a 310 gs. First service cost was 5500 @ 1000 km, second was 8000 rs @ 10000 km, & upcoming third will be around 15000rs @ 20000 km. Done a regular service & chain replacement @ 15000 km for 8000 rs. Now I have to change front fork oil seal and oil with third service, that will cost 3800 rs. I have changed back breakpads twice & front break pad once, that costs me total of 6000 rs. I have spent a total amount of 46300 rs for 20000 km/ for two years as maintenance cost. I think it is very big amount for a 300 cc single cylinder motorcycle.

  • The sad thing is there's no free service. And it costs about 8000 to 12000. The 1st service is at 1000km and every 10,000km once a service. So the service cost is much higher. when it comes to parts changing and services... its definitely above 10000rs. Also after few services it costs above 15K. so think twice.

Q. Is this bike suitable for short guys my height is 5.3 please help. - G 310 R - G 310 R?
  • The saddle height of BMW G 310 R is 785mm. A person with a height of 5.3 ft can ride this bike comfortably. Moreover, we'd recommend taking a test ride of the bike for a better insight into the performance, comfort, and compatibility. Follow the link for dealership details - Bike Showrooms.

Q. How many days it will take to deliver new BMW G 310 R after booking?
  • The waiting period for both the 310R and 310GS is unpredictable and painfully long. I've been waiting for my GS for over 3 months now with no visibility how much longer it will take. Looks like BMW has tried to bite more than it can chew and cannot cater to the demand for these machines.
  • For the availability and waiting period, we would suggest you to please connect with the nearest authorized dealership in your city as it depends on their stock book. Follow the link and select your desired city for dealership details.
  • I have booked GS 310 Rallye Edition on 9th Dec 2020 from Navneet Motors, Thane and still haven't got the delivery, its been 7 months now and the dealer still don't have any idea about the delivery.
