BMW G 310 R Latest Updates

BMW has hiked the prices of its top-selling naked motorcycle, the G 310 R, by Rs 10,000. It now retails at Rs 2.60 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Read more about the price here.

In India, BMW had launched the BS6 G 310 R with new features like LED lighting for all systems, adjustable brake and clutch levers, ride-by-wire, and a slip-and-assist clutch at a staggering price. We have ridden the bike and think it makes for a great package now. Maintenance costs have also been revealed. Is it cheaper to maintain than the KTM 390 Duke?

BMW G 310 R Engine

The G 310 R sports a 313cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled unit that continues to produce 34PS at 9500rpm and 28Nm of torque at 7500rpm. Thanks to the inclusion of ride-by-wire and a few new internal bits, the engine feels a lot smoother than the BS4 motor. It finally gets a slip-and-assist clutch making gear shifts on the six-speed gearbox, an effortless affair. The bike gets a tubular steel frame with 43mm upside-down front forks and rear monoshock damper. It gets 17-inch alloys wrapped in 110/70 R17 front and 150/60 R17 rear Michelin Pilot Street radial tyres. Braking is via a single 300mm front disc clamped with radially mounted calipers and a 240mm rear disc. It gets dual-channel ABS as standard.

BMW G 310 R Design

In terms of design, the G 310 R is exactly what you would expect a BMW designed bike to look like. It gets the same LED headlight and turn indicators that we first saw on the F 900 R. The golden-finished USD fork gives the front an aggressive stance. The profile is dominated by the large sculpted 11-litre fuel tank, the tank extensions, and the massive exhaust. The seat looks long and wide enough for comfort. Seat height is low at 785mm.

BMW G 310 R Features

The G 310 R now gets all-LED lighting, giving the baby roadster a proper muscular look. The headlight works brilliantly, leaving little room for complaints. The turn indicators get this lovely Lamborghini-esque ‘>’ shape. Our only grouse with the bike’s feature set is the LCD console. While it has enough data on demand, it isn’t that great to look at and doesn’t even have any smartphone connectivity options.

BMW G 310 R Competitors

The chief rival of the BMW G 310 R remains the KTM 390 Duke. After the BS6 updates and recent price revisions of both bikes, the baby Beemer is now more affordable than the Austrian streetfighter. The Honda CB300R is another natural rival of the G 310 R but it is yet to get its BS6 updates. For the price of the G 310 R though, you could get the TVS Apache RR 310.

    The engine (soul of the bike) is rough and feels stressed at times and ventilation is not at par, The bike gets heated a lot in slow moving traffic, The exhaust note is also not soothing, The gear shifts are very hard and this is a deal-breaker. Vibrations are present on the bike, Service network is limited in India.You do not feel confident at high speeds.The bike looks good, grabs attention, Suspensions are good, Seat-height is good for short riders also it is comfortable to sit. Led headlight is quite bright and gives good visibility at night. Breaks are decent. Overall avoid buying this bike, It just looks good and there are lot of problems in this bike.

BMW G 310 R is a sportbike with a 313cc motor, it has got excellent brakes, offers good bite, feedback and progression. Features packed bikes are pretty much the norm these days. In BMW G 310 R, you have LED lights all around, Additional comforts include an adjustable clutch and brake levers which will help you fine-tune the lever reach as per your hand size. The handling capabilities of the BMW G 310 R far outweigh the grip of its Michelin Pilot Street tyres.   • I owned a 310 gs. First service cost was 5500 @ 1000 km, second was 8000 rs @ 10000 km, & upcoming third will be around 15000rs @ 20000 km. Done a regular service & chain replacement @ 15000 km for 8000 rs. Now I have to change front fork oil seal and oil with third service, that will cost 3800 rs. I have changed back breakpads twice & front break pad once, that costs me total of 6000 rs. I have spent a total amount of 46300 rs for 20000 km/ for two years as maintenance cost. I think it is very big amount for a 300 cc single cylinder motorcycle.

  • The sad thing is there's no free service. And it costs about 8000 to 12000. The 1st service is at 1000km and every 10,000km once a service. So the service cost is much higher. when it comes to parts changing and services... its definitely above 10000rs. Also after few services it costs above 15K. so think twice.
