About Skoda

History

Skoda Auto is a Czech carmaker that traces its roots back to over 120 years ago. It began building cars in the 1930s, but since the ‘90s, it has been a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group.

Skoda began its operations in India in late 2001, and launched its first car, the Octavia sedan, in 2002. It was initially imported in semi knock-down kits and assembled locally in the country. Now Skoda’s Aurangabad facility is a full-fledged manufacturing plant. The carmaker even has a localised version of its global MQB A0 modular vehicle platform.

Since 2019, Skoda India operates under Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, a subsidiary of the global VW Group.

Product portfolio

Sedans: Skoda’s sedan lineup consists of the brand’s global stalwarts, the Octavia and Superb sedans. At the entry level, Skoda offers the Slavia that has replaced the Rapid sedan.

SUVs: The carmaker offers the Kushaq compact SUV at the entry level. The facelifted Kodiaq SUV has been added to the lineup in early 2022.

Greatest hits

2004 Skoda Octavia RS: Iconic performance sedan that’s still revered by the automotive community

Skoda Superb: Fully-loaded European luxury sedan

2020 Skoda Octavia RS 245: Quickest Skoda in India

Skoda Kushaq: First mass-market Skoda SUV that debuted the globally-derived MQB A0 IN platform

Skoda Rapid: Compact, highway-friendly family sedan with a solid build quality

Future plans

After adding the Kodiaq SUV and Slavia sedan to its lineup in early 2022, Skoda has new MQB A0 platform based vehicles in the pipeline. The carmaker will also launch the next-generation Octavia vRS sometime in the distant future. It is expected to bring its global electric vehicle, the Enyaq iV electric SUV, to India as a completely-built unit (CBU).

I bought Skoda Kushaq Ambition 1.0 manual in mid-September 2020. I have done 11k km till now 60% highway and 40% city drive. The reason I Bought Kushaq- 1) Wanted a compact SUV with power so that I can drive that on highways and traffic as well. Trust me it is 1 great car for city drive as well due to turbo engine 2) Safety standards 3) 10-inch Infotainment system has very good touch response and Music system is good even without amplifier and 1subwoofer in mid variant. 4) Power Delivery 5) Interior (I always wanted a black interior car I'm not a fan of1beige interiors). Also, the dashboard designs are very attractive and appealing with great finishing .6) great1Torque 7) Comfort 8) Great legroom for passengers 9) Sheer Driving Pleasure 10) Smart Elements so these are the 10 reasons why I bought Kushaq. Also, the cons what I feel is 1) backseat lacks space for 3 people 2 people can sit comfortably basically its a proper 4 seaters 2) Dimensions such as height and length could have better although it has the longest wheelbase almost competitors3) Ac Control touch buttons are not really so easy to use while driving physical buttons would have been better 4) Lacks digital cockpit. But overall I'm happy with my choice and until now the performance Kushaq delivered is really really amazing also the mileage is good as well my average mileage is 16-17 kmpl which was not expected. Those who are considering Seltos and Creta should at least once test drive Kushaq and Taigun before buying I think this might change your mind. Because a lot of people have many misconceptions about VW and Skoda. Although Creta and Seltos are great cars as well.

It's a complete driver's car. High-performance engine to have fun with. One of the best to think about, there are few flaws like the breaking is very poor and air conditioning position is very wrong, the car has the conditioning issue as well. In there's of performance, no words to express.

I would like to share my 6,000 km experience with Skoda Kushaq 1.5 DSG. Performance: Remarkable performance of the engine and the crispy shifts of the gearbox makes it fun to drive. Mileage: City usage: 13.8-14.2 highway and expressway usage: 18+(50:50) city and highway: 16.2The service network has been improved and all the minor issues I faced were fixed in due time. If you are considering buying Kushaq. I'll suggest you go and experience the drive yourself.

Both Slavia and City are very competent sedans. Both look good, drive and handle very well, and are loaded with features and practicality. If you are looking for a car to be driven around in, the City makes for a solid choice. On the other hand, the SUV-ish ground clearance of Slavia keeps you worry-free even when feeling a bit adventurous, and the ride comfort will suit all the family members. Skoda India has stopped the production of the Rapid. It’s now only available at selected dealerships as leftover stock. Skoda has replaced the Rapid with the Slavia. Which has been launched with a powerful 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine on 28 Feb. 2022. The Slavia gets a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech (telematics), ventilated front seats, a single-pane sunroof, ambient lighting, an 8-speaker sound system with subwoofer, and auto headlamps and wipers. It’s possible that the Skoda Slavia might make “tempting” and “sedan” be said in the same breath once again.
