Triumph Tiger 1200

Triumph has launched the new Tiger 1200 in India at a price of Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike is available in India in only the higher spec XCx variant though it comes in six variants abroad. Triumph have spent four years developing the new Tiger 1200 and the new iteration features more than 100 improvements across the board. The main focus was in arear of weight reduction, better low-speed manoeuvrability and a more tractable motor. The XCx loses over 5kg weight over its predecessor.

Overall the design remains unchanged baring for a few minor updates like the slightly redesigned fairing and a metallised tank badge. It also gets LED headlamps and DRLs. Bells and whistles come in the form of a new 5-inch colour TFT screen as the instrument cluster. Ergonomics have been revised for a more upright and comfortable riding posture.

The 1215cc motor's power output remains unchanged. It still makes 141PS and 122 Nm of torque. The six-speed gearbox features a slipper clutch and sends power to the rear wheel via a shaft drive. Rider aids come in the form of an electronically adjustable semi-actve suspension, updated cruise control system, traction control and cornering ABS. It also gets six-power modes including the new Off Road Pro mode which allows the rider to switch off all electronic assists and ABS.

The new Tiger 1200 faces competition from the BMW R 1200 GS and the Ducati Multistrada 1200.

The 2021 Triumph Tiger 1200 arrives in GT, GT Pro, GT Explorer, Rally Pro And Rally Explorer variants. While the GT variants feature a 19/17-inch alloy setup, the Rally variants come with tubeless wire-spoke rims. Furthermore, the Explorer variants come with a massive 30-litre fuel tank while the other variants feature a 20-litre unit.

The Triumph Tiger 1200 range is powered by a new 1160cc in-line triple motor that develops 150PS at 9000rpm and 130Nm at 7000rpm, a bump of 9PS and 8Nm compared to the previous model. All that power is delivered through an improved shaft drive.

All the Triumph Tiger 1200 variants come with fully-adjustable Showa semi-active suspension, tuned differently for the GT and Rally variants, while braking duties have been entrusted to Brembo Stylema calipers on all models. The new Tiger 1200 is over 25kg lighter than before, courtesy new, lighter frame and engine.

Triumph has also heavily reworked the electronics of the Tiger 1200. It now features a lane change detector and blind spot detector, both of which rely on a radar sensor at the rear. Other electronic aids include cornering traction control, ABS, hill hold control, quickshifter, adaptive cornering lights, heated grips, electronic cruise control and upto six riding modes. Most of the features are standard on all bikes except for the GT. Additionally, the Explorer models also pack heated seats.

The Triumph Tiger 1200 locks horns with the BMW R 1250 GS and is expected to grace the Indian roads in mid-2022.
